EXMD2362 Weight Management Module

Welcome to the Weight Management module in EXMD2362! The learning objective of this module is to describe the relationship between daily energy requirements, diet and physical activity and the evidence related to physical activity for weight loss and weight management. We will also discuss the circumstances for referral to an accredited practising dietitian (APD) and the ability to use body composition measures to determine appropriate interventions related to weight loss. The learning activities for this module include:

  • online videos summarising key concepts relating to energy balance, diet, physical activity and weight management
  • selected journal articles which present the evidence relating to energy balance regulation, physical activity and weight management
  • an interactive class in which we will work through a series of case studies highlighting how physical activity can be used for weight management

The following article provides an excellent review of how energy balance is regulated. Reading this article will enable you to understand the physiological factors regulating energy balance in humans and also the implications this has for weight management.
